The Final Artwork in my Pre-Design2

Finally I completed this dress due to busying working on some event job.

Gold and Silver Party Dress

There were 2 design pop up from my mind, just draw it out with gold and silver pen in black paper to highlight these shinny party dresses for outgoing young girls.

Sofa pose

Just another drawing with posing on sofa.

Pink Dress

Fashion illustration or caricature? Just draw it out. I tried to add in many color many colors, basically it is pink and purple color scheme based.

Pre-Design 2

Thought the precious post, the black color based fabric was thick and slight hard type, and this white based fabric, is a very soft and smooth type.

After put on the mannequin, I having too many ideas, have not decide what kind of design going to apply.

Pre-Design

When China town and found this fabrics was really nice, they imported from Europe. I bought 2 yards. Just buy without any design in mind.Thought lots people may have the same problem: Produce the design then buy the cloth or buy the cloth then decide what design to be applied to; that was a headache question.

Hm....it was really fun that put it on the mannequin to try out what design can be produce due to the thickness, the softness, the strengths and the fabric prints of the cloth.

It was very ‘Japanese’ if I make it in this design although it imported from Europe.

Ah! If make it in a shirt, it seems for lady boss, directors, specialist, rich housewife maybe. Hee hee!

Posing of the Model

Whether is photo shooting or the fashions illustration, I think the posing of the model is very important, it will highlight and emphasized the best part of the feeling and the effects of the model / costume or the products.Personally, I divide into few type: standing poses, the most common posing for presentation and display, sitting poses, sitting which closely to lying poses, lying poses and some kind of special poses like squash, jogging, dancing etc.

In this drawing I just emphasized the hair style illustration and the posing of the model.

Just try to create a way to present the dress. Art could be needed to be following many rules; it could be no rules as well, so I draw it in a caricature way.

I trying to bring out the elegant and the class of these 2 florist printed design. I think it should be still not out if they appeared in current year.

Gown and Cocktail

As in 2008's view, these night gown series was out of trend, but it still my artworks in 1991.

I used crayon and watercolor drawing, to bring the feeling of velvet, the inside of this gown in orange color was one of the unique design of this gown.

Fabrics, Colors, Mix and Match

Very basic artworks, fabrics mix and match, getting color from magazines outfit colors and do some redesigns, design or copy different kinds clothes and do the mix and matches.

Aerobics Leotards

Did this series aerobic leotards design in 1991. Aerobics workout was one of the hottest sports during 90s; Jane Fonda is the tycoon during that time, I remember many related great movies had launched like Break Dance, Flash Dance the most famous ones and etc.

I been joining the aerobics classes at YMCA Singapore, during that period, the famous instructress was Angeline Teo, her class was real tough but always full house!

Presently, in the “Yoga Age”, that was none of the people will wear such attire even aerobics workout still around except professional contemporary or ballet dancers; although Madonna ever wore it in her MTV somewhere around 2007 or 2006 if I am not wrong.

The Beginning

I remember I took my fashion Illustrations Course at Pa-Lin Art School somewhere around 1990, the lecturer who taught the class was Miss Gina Lim, graduated from Baharudin Polytechnic, Singapore if I am not wrong.

The usual grid divides the overall height of each body, from the heel to top of the head; including hair covering for adults will be 1:7 or 1:7.5. But in fashion illustration, was mainly emphasizing the designing of the clothes, hence it usually divides the adult body into 1:9 to 1:10.

My Art

Fashion Illustration is of my interest. Fashion illustrations, other than designing the outfit and the fashion, I see it as an art; hence it could be done in any art medium other than pencils and markers, it could be done in charcoal, in acrylic, pastel, water color, or any types of medium I like.

Of course the purpose of fashion illustration is one of the procedures to design the cloth and accessories, it must be make-able, wear-able and practical, but since I emphasized on art purposes, that’s not importance anymore.
